About
The full day course on the topic "AI for Science", organized by the Slovenian AI Factory (SLAIF), was given by Professor Sašo Džeroski in Ljubljana on May 20th 2026.
This course introduced artificial intelligence methods developed to address the specific challenges of scientific research, such as producing explainable predictions, learning from limited labelled data, incorporating domain knowledge, and supporting open and reproducible science. It covered explainable machine learning, semi-supervised learning, foundation models, automated modelling of dynamical systems, and semantic technologies and ontologies. Practical examples from the life, environmental, and materials sciences demonstrated how these methods could be applied to real scientific problems. The course also provided an introduction to the Slovenian AI Factory and the opportunities it offered to researchers working with AI.
